Overview:

This position will work closely with the Public Relations Director and the Online Communications Manager to clearly communicate the mission, brand, and work of The Salvation Army in an integrated communication strategy. The Social Media Manager is responsible for the overall content and communication strategy for social media engagement with The Salvation Army Northern Division audience.

The goal of this position is to engage audiences in multiple avenues of online communication, tell the story of The Salvation Army, and proactively participate in and respond to community conversation. The success of the position ultimately results in an increased social user engagement, with a measureable increase in revenue, audience growth and volunteer recruitment from social media platforms.

In support of this and other activity, the Social Media Manager will monitor and respond to any communication about The Salvation Army through social mediums. The position will ensure that the brand is advocated for at all times creating a positive emotional feeling in the community for the work of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and implement a social media strategy for The Salvation Army 
  • Create and execute social media campaigns and promotions that are original to The Salvation Army and designed to produce participation and sharing 
  • Interact, report, and tell the story of The Salvation Army quickly and concisely, including the creation of graphics and supplemental visual components 
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly social media content kit for social media admins at Salvation Army locations across Minnesota and North Dakota 
  • Plan and create social media advertisements to help meet campaign and department goals 
  • Monitor trends and changes in social media and other communication mediums 
  • Advocate for and engage the public with the brand and mission of The Salvation Army, interceding to maintain brand integrity when necessary 
  • Analyze and report on the growth of donor and volunteer engagement resulting from social interaction 
  • Provide weekly, monthly and annual reports on social media campaigns, advertisements, performance, growth, and other key performance indicators as identified by the Online Communications Manager 
  • Monitor and uphold The Salvation Army brand and integrity across other business and organization’s social platforms

Additional Job Functions:

  • Develop an understanding of audience as you interact with people in the context of the mission 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the organization’s current marketing priorities and initiatives 
  • Provide guidance and support to a team of social media users at Salvation Army locations across Minnesota and North Dakota 
  • Participate in departmental fundraising activities 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College degree required. Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in communication, journalism or other related field with both social media and online communication experience. 
  • An engaging and effective communication style with excellent written and communication skills is a must. 
  • The position requires an organized, creative thinker with demonstrated marketing and leadership skills. 
  • Willingness to work a nontraditional schedule – ability to respond to external communication needs 24/7 and work weekends as assigned. 
  • The candidate will be an energetic individual passionate to engage with donors, volunteers and supporters to share the story of The Salvation Army through multiple online communication avenues including, but not limited to, blog posts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and other digital/social sites. 
  • The individual must be well-organized, be self-educating, and have the ability to work both independently and on a team. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must. 
  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to plan, build and internally and externally market the brand of The Salvation Army aligning with the organization’s overall goals and week-by-week objectives. 
  • The Social Media Manager will maintain an editorial calendar working internally to approve content in advance while knowing the position requires around the clock monitoring of communication avenues. 
  • The individual must be direct, trustworthy, friendly, approachable and responsive in a fast-paced communication culture. 
  • The candidate will consistently monitor trends and changes understanding the conventions of each online communication medium. 
  • Experience with Facebook developer tools, html programming, graphic design, mobile responsive development and social media planning systems are a must. 
  • Additional experience with java script, video editing software, and cloud-based tools a plus but not requited. 
  • Must be able to pass The Salvation Army’s background checks, and meet the MVR drivers’ qualification. 
  • Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army and satisfactorily complete the required Safe from Harm training requirement within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
