Position Details

Public Affairs Intern - Assist with Grassroots Advocacy Initiative

Start: Mid-March 2018

End: Mid-September 2018

What You’ll Do:

  • Support and assist AEM’s I Make Americagrassroots public policy initiative and tour.
  • Assist Public Affairs Manager with planning 15 upcoming I Make America events at member facilities. Work with vendors and members to get promotional banners designed and produced.
  • Update photos, videos, articles on I Make America website.
  • Help draft emails to grassroots supporters and I Make America ambassadors.
  • Work with Public Affairs Director on social media and public relations initiatives (drafting media advisories, press releases).
  • Assist AEM’s Washington DC team with planning and executing September’s I Make America Fly-In.

What You’ll Learn:

  • First-hand experience working on a national grassroots advocacy campaign.
  • Event planning skills.
  • Improved communication skills, including drafting social media posts, emails and articles.
  • Increased knowledge of the legislative process and how AEM leverages the I Make America campaign to advance its public policy priorities.

Who We’re Seeking:

A strong communicator (written and verbal) who possesses strong organizational ability and attention to detail, along with the capability to work independently and to build relationships both internally and externally.

What Else You Should Know:

Paid internship, $11 per hour, 15 hours per week. Acceptable hours for AEM interns are between 7 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
