Operation Christmas Child - Media Relations Intern.

A Media Relations internship with Operation Christmas Child offers the opportunity to apply communication skills in a non-profit setting for continued professional growth, the accessibility of mentorship while working alongside seasoned professionals, a safe space for sharpening skills and acquiring new ones, and flexible scheduling options.

The most successful candidate will demonstrate dependability, desire for excellence and ateam-oriented attitude. Strong verbal and written communication skills are crucial for success. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.

Main Objective:

Support the development of relationships with regional media outlets and partners to achieve print, TV and radio coverage that promotes awareness and action in support of the mission of Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child within designated coverage area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research to modify and strengthen media outreach
  • Work with Super Region Media Coordinator to implement news release strategy
  • Customize news releases to be sent to media outlets in assigned areas
  • Proofread news releases before sending them to media outlets
  • Follow up with media contacts regarding news releases and PSAs via phone and email
  • Support national communication strategy by aggregating story leads and highlights for headquarters
  • Use monitoring tools to record media hits, evaluate successes and develop future strategy
