GENERAL SUMMARY:

Marketing Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and managing comprehensive marketing plans for Lincoln Park Zoo. This individual will be the primary liaison between the Marketing & Communications department and additional departments at the zoo to place paid media and to manage marketing projects to completion. This includes managing timing & paid media budgets, collaborating with other zoo departments, project management, execution and administration. Much of this role is in paid digital media, i.e. Facebook.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with the Vice President to prepare marketing plans, implement paid media, support owned marketing strategies, and measure efforts against goals to achieve outcomes
  • Work interdepartmentally to take responsibility for annual marketing planning and serve as primary liaison with Communications for projects combining paid, owned, and earned media. Specifically, managing updates, timelines, budgets, cross-departmental issues/questions regarding campaign execution
  • Facilitate the presentation and execution of media plans, buying, reporting, and invoicing to achieve interdepartmental and/or brand needs; staying on-budget and on-time
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Audience Research to monitor and assess relevant tracking metrics and provide consistent reporting on a regular basis
  • Become an expert on our strategic brand elements including our targets and competition
  • Stay abreast of current marketing and digital trends and advise accordingly; Produce a monthly competitive advertising audit
  • Proactively seek out, compose and fulfill award entries for marketing work within the industry
  • Provide weekly paid media overviews to Vice President showcasing what will be running in market that week

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to interact courteously and respectfully. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with media reps, Agency, board members, department members, and other departments.
  • Superb attention to detail; organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to coordinate high level of activity in fast-paced office, under a variety of conditions and deadlines
  • Experience with both brand awareness and direct response initiatives with an eye to measurement
  • An independent, process oriented, self-starter with initiatives and ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task.
  • Strong negotiation skills and familiarity with media vendors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required

Education Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing or related field

Experience Requirements:

  • At least three to five years in marketing or advertising, with emphasis on media buying and/or marketing planning. Experience in paid digital placement is required as are existing relationships with media vendors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at computer and on phone for long periods
  • Ability to navigate zoo grounds and buildings in all weather conditions

Additional Requirements:

  • Available to work an extended schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings and holidays according to demands of the role and tasks
