The Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) team at UW-Madison's Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) is seeking a Marketing Project Assistant to support direct mail, digital marketing, campaign planning and implementation and media buying, who will report directly to the Advertising and Promotion Specialist.

The Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) Team advances the Division mission and enriches the UW-Madison brand through the deployment of sophisticated marketing and communications strategies that establish mutually beneficial connections between the university and people who want to enrich their lives and advance their careers.

Principal Duties:

Direct Marketing Assistant (45%):

  • Become familiar with internal databases and execute queries to create direct marketing lists.
  • Coordinate the distribution of all print mailings; which includes our 3x/year large catalog mailing.
  • Work with campus mail to arrange for addressing of print pieces and delivery of materials to the USPS.
  • Participate in marketing strategy processes. Work with strategists and account managers to develop marketing list strategies for print and email.
  • Respond effectively to specific requests for direct marketing list segments and internal lists.
  • Research, recommend, and obtain external lists for clients, when appropriate, providingcost/benefit analysis for decision-making.
  • Network with key stakeholders and build effective, collegial relationships.

Advertising and Promotion Assistant (45%):

  • Plan and purchase advertising across multiple media channels: paid search, mobile, paid social, display, and traditional media; and create performance reports.
  • Help develop objectives, strategies, plans and presentations for ad campaigns.
  • Analyze web metrics using Google Analytics, provide campaign effectiveness, create reports, and recommend optimizations when appropriate to improve media performance.
  • Develop and execute campaign recommendations for a variety of ad networks
  • Stay apprised of industry standards, new media programs/opportunities, and advise on new ways to reach targets.
  • Investigate and utilize information from internal research findings.

Other Duties (10%):

  • Participate in project ideation to establish the look and feel for digital projects with regard for brand, audience, and the user experience.
  • Participate in campus-wide communication and external relations teams, developing collegial relationships with other communications and marketing offices.
  • Staff and support special events.
  • Other duties and responsibilities not included may be assigned, to ensure the successful functioning and evolution of the IMC Team and its support of lifelong learning.

Degree and area of specialization:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required (most relevant fields include Digital Media, Marketing, Journalism, Communication Arts).

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

  • Experience/ knowledge in digital marketing, direct marketing, media buying, or related responsibilities.
  • Experience analyzing research and data, boiling it down to relevant insights, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience preparing marketing plans, and the ability to communicate those plans to stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required, as well as organizational skills to thrive in a dynamic team-oriented workplace.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience working with diverse internal and external audiences with energy, collegiality, patience, passion, curiosity, and humor.

Preferred by not required skills:

  • Experience planning and executing paid media campaigns.
  • Experience with WordPress and a basic understanding of content management systems.
  • Experience in search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM).
  • Experience writing and editing content for electronic/online publication.
  • Experience with iContact, Constant Contact, Eloqua or comparable products.
