Baird’s summer program activities include an Intern Welcome Event in our corporate office in Milwaukee, multiple Lunch & Learns, a Brewer’s game at Miller Park, Baird Night at the Zoo, and many other informal events. Our interns have the opportunity to use a Baird Cares Day and be compensated to volunteer in the community. They are also eligible to apply for $8,000 in scholarships. Robust internal and external communications and effective media relations are vital components of Baird’s commitment to being a great place to work and strong brand. This internship works directly with Baird’s Communications and Public Relations teams in planning, developing and implementing programs and efforts to effectively communicate Baird’s messages internally and externally. Strong writing, organizational and intrapersonal skills required. Must have a passion for media relations and communicating through the written word, enjoy teamwork and excel at handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

Location, Availability & Hours:

Located in our downtown Milwaukee office, interns must be flexible to work a minimum of 15-20 daytime hours/week during the Spring and Fall semesters, and 37.5-40 daytime hours/week during breaks and summer. The internship is a minimum of 6 months and can extend up to 2 years dependent on graduation date, workload and intern performance. Recruiting for 2018 will kick-off in January for the internship to begin in April or May.

WHAT WOULD I DO? 

  • Assist with Baird’s overall communications efforts, helping research, write and implement internal news stories, associate announcements, award nominations, presentations and other communications.
  • Assist with Baird’s overall media relations efforts, drafting news releases and other media correspondence, developing media lists, tracking coverage, coordinating reprints, and maintaining website news section. 
  • Post and update items on associate intranet. 
  • Help ensure communication style, PR approach and messages are consistent with Baird’s practices, culture and brand.
  • Write and proofread copy for additional marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Review and analyze pertinent communications data to help develop communications strategies.
  • Create and execute communication plans for Baird community campaigns such as United Way and United Performing Arts Fund.
  • Research and monitor industry trends. § Perform other duties in support of team, department and firm projects and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRMENTS: 

  • Working toward a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or Business. Also must have completed course work in one or more of the following: journalism, public relations, marketing communications, advertising or writing for business. 
  • Strong writing, editing, communication and time management skills. 
  • Must be a strategic thinker, a quick study and deliver strong customer service.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products. 
  • Experience with Google Analytics is a plus. 
  • Experience with SharePoint and/or managing intranets is a plus. 
  • Prior communications or PR internship experience preferred.

This is a paid internship.
