The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a progressive and award-winning public pension fund, is offering a great opportunity for the right person.

IMRF is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist to support strategic communication campaigns targeted at internal staff. This role will partner with internal stakeholders to develop, execute, and measure communications plans that align with organizational goals. Additionally, this role will be responsible for maintaining, improving, and executing IMRF’s Internal Communications Strategy.

The candidate must possess the ability to thrive in an environment that demands collaboration. Prior experience partnering with internal customers on long-term projects in support of communications goals is critical to success in this role.

Responsibilities for the Internal Communications Specialist include:

  • Deliver internal communications through a variety of channels 
  • Ensure communication plans align with IMRF’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and strategic objectives. 
  • Manage IMRF’s employee intranet. 
  • Develop and disseminate IMRF’s weekly staff e-newsletter. 
  • Train and serve as an Illinois Performance Excellence (ILPEx) Examiner for at least one year, and leverage experience to develop and execute communications strategies that promote IMRF’s Journey of Excellence and adherence to the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position. 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. 
  • Basic photography and video editing skills. 
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications. 
  • Knowledge of federal Plain Language Principles is a plus. 
  • Experience using a Content Management System (CMS) is a plus. 
  • Valid driver’s license. This position may require overtime and occasional overnight travel throughout Illinois.
