La Causa, Inc.’s mission is to: “Provide children, youth and families with quality, comprehensive services to nurture healthy family life and enhance community stability” and has various programs to serve the community, in both English and Spanish. The several divisions include the Early Education and Care Center, the La Causa Charter School, the Crisis Nursery and Respite Center, Social Services-Youth Programs, and Social Services-Adult Programs.

Base Wage: $18.69 per hour

POSITION TITLE: Grant Writer

FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Administration

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for all areas of grants including researching, developing, writing, submitting, and tracking grants for the entire organization.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Legend: E = Essential / NE = Non Essential / N/A = Not Applicable

  1. Research, analyze (review grant content to ensure eligibility and appropriate fit for the intended programs), report, track and follow-up on grants opportunities using all possible methods (i.e.; Internet, phone calls to local foundations/other potential grantors, etc.), and develop and complete grant request for submittal. E
  2. Collaborate with applicable stakeholders (Director of Community Affairs & Fund Development, Division Administrators, President & CEO) to develop strategies for pursuing and securing grants for the agency, ensure all areas of programming are represented when researching grants, etc. E
  3. Manage and facilitate grant tracking and reporting to include, but not limited to: receipt of grants (date awarded, to whom, how much, and if denied an award, determine the reason in order to strengthen future proposals), grant activity by year and program. Maintain calendar/timeline for annual grant planning, etc. E
  4. Manage and facilitate all aspects of grant and contract compliance with legal, organizational, and contractual requirements (both internal and external) to include, but not limited to: review all grants requirements and contract documents to develop, implement, and manage check lists to ensure compliance by program(s), disseminate grant information to all pertinent staff, provide interpretation of regulations governing contract or grant, and monitor performance once it has been implemented, etc. E
  5. Prepare, complete, and submit required items by due dates; to include, but not limited to: quantitative and qualitative reports on grants and contracts, research completed and results, etc. E
  6. Provide back-up support for departmental staff as needed, including but not limited to donor and gift tracking. E
  7. Support, participate, and/or serve as back up for the department as needed to include, but not limited to annual fundraiser event. E
  8. Establish and maintain good communication with all stakeholders (i.e.; community members, funders, staff, etc.). NE
  9. Follow legal, organizational, and contractual requirements, laws and policies. E
  10. Attend all meetings, committees, conferences, and professional development activities, and serve on committee(s), as directed. NE
  11. Perform other duties as assigned. NE

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in office and meeting environments, including frequent travel. Local travel required; some state-wide travel as needed. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Affairs & Fund Development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited school, in Journalism, English, or other related field.
  2. Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of formal writing experience in a professional and/or technical area, such as grant writing, investigative reporting, freelance writing, and/or research analysis.
  3. Some knowledge of data analysis, and financial tracking.
  4. Bilingual, English and Spanish highly preferred.
  5. Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office suite.
  6. Strong cultural competency and interpersonal relationship skills.
  7. Strong communication skills, written and verbal, appropriate to target audiences across multiple functional areas, categories, levels, linguistic, and economic backgrounds; both in a team and individual environment.
  8. Excellent critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  9. Highly developed organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities.
  10. Transportation, valid Wisconsin Driver’s license, state minimum auto insurance and must meet La Causa, Inc. driving standards.
  11. Able to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, depending on program needs.
  12. Must successfully complete and pass all background checks.

Base Wage: $18.69 per hour
