The American Medical Association (AMA), the nation’s largest professional Association of physicians, has a dynamic opportunity for the right individual. As part of the AMA’s Physician Engagement team, the Director, Segment Marketing will strategically drive and lead the implementation of all physician member market segment marketing programs to help grow AMA membership. This includes leading the team in the design and execution of marketing programs and messaging that achieve deeper engagement with prospects and customers; Driving a strong pipeline and acquire new customers; Working with B2C and B2B marketing teams to develop and support marketing strategy, pipeline acceleration, and campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead development, management and implementation of member marketing strategies and plans for program development, including AMA’s affinity program portfolio, messaging, packaging and distribution. Bring strategy to life by developing assigned value propositions, promotions and communication initiatives within the full marketing mix including: creative, media, content. Leverage all delivery channels to enhance physician engagement.
  • Monitor, measure, review, and evaluate competitive marketing initiatives. Assess comprehensive customer strategic positioning relative to trends, physicians and competitors in order to identify opportunities for growth. Collaborate with key cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for growth and build cohesive value proposition statements. Assist in the development and analysis of consumer insights to develop effective marketing strategies and messaging.
  • Develop strategy to execute marketing plans with AMA partners that drive the pipeline and build the AMA brand. Provide thought leadership to drive recognition in the marketplace. Recommend creative, cutting edge tactics of execution as part of ongoing marketing and communication plans. Collaborate and influence internal and external partners to drive awareness, affinity and business performance, in a way that delivers on AMA’s brand strategy and mission in an impactful way.
  • Develop and provide effective leadership for the newly developed marketing team and implement directional strategies. Manage all administrative and human resource responsibilities for the team including but not limited to: organizational plans, budget and salary plans, performance tracking and reporting at the individual and group levels. Provide ongoing leadership, training, and development.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business required. MBA preferred 
  • 12–15 years of comprehensive knowledge of sales and marketing, with capacity to extend that knowledge to staff to build an effective sales and marketing strategy 
  • 10 or more years of experience leading and managing direct reports along with management and leadership skills to coordinate multiple staff and functions involved in managing marketing 
  • Exposure to a broad range of traditional and non-traditional consumer marketing techniques/vehicles (e.g., advertising, digital, social media, PR, community marketing, etc.) 
  • Experience in consumer packaged goods preferred 
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a changing environment 
  • Ability to drive decisions through critical thinking and structured problem solving 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, plan, and execute marketing programs that achieve measureable objectives 
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with a successful track record of influencing subordinates, peers, management and external partners to achieve measurable results 
  • A passion and ability for building and honing talent in others. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze relevant data, insights and information to identify opportunities and develop strategy and plans to address 
  • High level of knowledge, experience and proficiency with web-based technology 
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work cross-functionally as well as independently 
  • Occasional travel required
