The Big Ten Conference is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Communications.

Responsibilities are primarily in communications, public relations and publications. The Director will serve as the primary media contact for men’s basketball and other select sports, serve as media coordinator for the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, manage and execute Big Ten Basketball Media Day and fulfill other duties as assigned. This individual will have multiple direct reports, so experience as a supervisor is preferred.

Requirements:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and should have 5-7 years of experience in the fields of communications and/or public relations. 
  • Candidates should have experience with website management and be adept in social media strategy and engagement through various platforms. 
  • Position requires excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to multi-task and work under deadlines. 
  • A working knowledge of InDesign and StatCrew statistical software is preferred. 
  • This position requires regional travel. 
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends. 
  • The ability to occasionally lift materials of 25-50 pounds, walking and/or standing for a sustained period of time may be required.

Starting annual salary will be commensurate with experience, plus participation in the conference’s medical and dental insurance plans.
