PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Advise and counsel senior executive leaders within Exelon Generation with respect to communications issues, strategies and tactics. Serve as senior communications leader for Exelon Power and lead all internal and external communications for this business unit. Oversee the development and management of strategic internal and external communications plans that support business and policy objectives for the entire operating company. Serve as the primary Power corporate spokesperson to the news media. Strategically leverage digital and social media tools and channels to enhance internal and external communications strategies. Supervise, monitor, and coach Generation communications staff to ensure that communications plans and processes support employee engagement and serve to protect and enhance the reputation of Exelon Generation assets to build and sustain goodwill among stakeholder audiences and advance key business and policy objectives. Leverage communications tools to support energy policy and issue advocacy efforts. Assign and manage communications resources as required in support of the Vice President of Communications for Exelon Generation. Additional duties include employee coaching and development; motivating and setting direction; leading, assigning and reviewing communications materials and providing strategic counsel oversight; and integrating communications across the operating company.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Oversight of Exelon Power and Generation-wide internal and external communications activities.
  2. Lead development of strategic communication vehicles and approaches in support of communications, business and policy objectives.
  3. Counsel, advise and inform the Vice President of Communications for Exelon Generation and key Generation executives on communications issues and activities affecting Generation.
  4. Coach, develop and lead the communications team in support of overall goals.
  5. Partner with Generation Communications leadership on administration, business planning, and budgeting.
  6. Deliver top-quality communications plans, processes and other materials, ensuring excellence in all written communications.
  7. Oversee Generation charitable contributions and sponsorships program, enhancing our giving strategy and approach to be more strategic; advance the company’s business goals; improve tracking of our grants; and deliver greater value to Exelon Generation and the communities we serve.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • 4-year relevant degree and a minimum of 12 or more years of experience in communications, journalism or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, high degree of flexibility
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Broad understanding of press dynamics and organizational communications.
  • Strategic thinking, self-motivation and project management skills.
  • A high level of self-motivation and independence will be critical.
  • Demonstrated managerial experience.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree.
  • Strong acumen on evolving energy policy constructs.

Qualifications:

  • Oversee a staff of 6 to 7. 
  • The position requires a high degree of interpersonal skills and communication skills in working effectively with senior management. 
  • Strategic advice and counsel to senior management members is a critical component of the job, developing internal and external communications to meet business needs. 
  • Must work continuously, effectively and skillfully with Generation senior executives. 
  • Responsible for an experienced communications staff and their activities. 
  • Requires substantial outreach to media and other external audiences. 
  • Requires strong competency in internal communications and employee engagement. 
  • High level of thought leadership, strategic thinking and policy acumen required. 
  • Requires ability to travel. 
  • Reports to Vice President of Communications for Exelon Generation
