Lakeville Area Public Schools is seeking candidates to apply for the position of Communications Specialist. This position advances the district’s mission, values and goals by assisting with the development and implementation of a coordinated, district-wide communications and public relations program.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  1. Assist in the planning and implementation of the district communications and public relations plan 
  2. Create and edit material for a variety of audiences and purposes including newsletters, district website, marketing collateral, presentations, letters, video and social media content generated by the communications department 
  3. Coordinate and implement the district social media strategy 
  4. Assist with the planning and implementation of public relations initiatives including district events 
  5. Oversee and update the district website, providing assistance and training to school and program staff 
  6. Assist with photography and video production 
  7. Coordinate use of the district mass communication electronic notification system, providing training assistance to school and program staff 
  8. Maintain excellent relationships with students, administrators, teachers, staff, parents and community members for the purpose of serving as a communications liaison for schools and programs 
  9. Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment):

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, design or a related field 
  2. Two years of related professional experience 
  3. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills with varied stakeholders (e.g. staff, parents, students, community and business people, elected officials) 
  4. Proficient in use of publishing software including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite 
  5. Proficient in graphic design with a strong understanding of visual communication and branding concepts 
  6. Experience using social media for businesses and/or organizations 
  7. Experience with website publishing, content management systems and other technology needed for communications (e.g. Google Apps, digital photography, video) 
  8. Project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work under stress 
  9. Detailed-oriented with proven ability to be consistently accurate 
  10. Ability to work weekends and/or after hours when needed
