Position: Associate Communications Specialist – Internal Communications

Location: CAO/Communications

Salary: $50,242 - $63,293

Under general supervision, serve as a communications resource to internal services departments (County Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology and Financial and Administrative Services) to assist with developing and implementing communications strategies, and delivering effective information to target audiences. Also, develop and implement appropriate metrics to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of communication strategies.

As a member of central Lake County Communications Team (under general direction from the Communications Manager), the individual will assist in developing strategies and performing activities to support the internal and external communications demands of assigned departments.

Specific duties and responsibilities include: working with assigned departments on message and content development, writing and communicating information across various communication platforms (web, social media, print, video), developing and designing content for electronic and print communication channels (website, reports, brochures, fliers, speaking notes, newsletters, presentations) and managing social media platforms and postings. The individual will be responsible for leveraging LinkedIn to promote Lake County job opportunities and attract candidates.

Additionally, the individual will develop and implement a communications plan to drive employee engagement and alignment to the County Board Strategic Plan, including Mission, Vision and Values. He/she will also coordinate special events and meetings.

Required Skills:

The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, and considerable knowledge of print, web, social media, video, graphics, public/community relations and intergovernmental relations. He/she must possess the necessary skills to respond to requests for information in a timely and customer service-oriented manner and use discretion with sensitive or confidential information or inquiries. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive and professional relationships. He/she should maintain knowledge and awareness of innovative and useful methods of communication with a focus on technology trends including social media, and on-line tools. The candidate should understand analytics tools and strategies.

Required Experience:

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to write for various communications (letters, e-newsletters, fliers, brochures, website, as well as manage social media. The candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to meet deadlines, respond to requests for information in a timely manner, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. He/she must have experience resolving issues using own initiative, under minimal supervision, time pressure, and in complex or sensitive situations. He/she must demonstrate the ability to present information clearly and in an interesting manner, and translate complex information into clear public messages. He/she must have experience producing quality presentations on complex topics to various audiences. Experience with internal communications/marketing is preferred. Experience using standard office equipment and computer software/programs, website content management, desktop publishing, PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator.

In order to be successful in this role you should have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Journalism and have at least two years of experience in public information, journalism, or communications, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
