The College of Letters & Science (L&S) at UWM is the home of the liberal arts disciplines. We set the standard and lead the campus’ efforts in research, teaching, and engagement with the community at large.
Research: L&S consistently brings in 60%+ of the entire campus’ annual extramural funding. Our faculty use this funding to discover and create new knowledge across the natural and social sciences and the humanities.
Teaching: Across disciplines, our curriculum focuses on the skills and traits essential for professional success and personal participation as a global citizen: critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and adaptation in a rapidly changing world. More than 30% of UWM’s student body chooses a major in L&S, and nearly every UWM student, regardless of major, travels through L&S to complete general education requirements; we provide each of them with a well-rounded, flexible education.
Community Engagement: L&S faculty, staff, students and alumni move Wisconsin forward through community involvement. They act as consultants and partners for start-ups and business ventures; volunteer service and time to nonprofits; serve on boards; provide expert commentary to media; and produce a variety of educational programming that is free and open to the public.
The person in this role is responsible for promoting the College’s academic programs to prospective students and their parents, providing information and advice through in-person, telephone, mail, email and social media communications.
The Admissions Counselor is expected to guide students towards choosing UWM and the College of Letters & Science as their education destination. The Admissions Counselor will need to retain a large amount of information about the entire scope of Letters & Science, as well as the admissions and financial aid process, and be an enthusiastic ambassador for the College.
