The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants to draw from, as needed, for temporary assignments. Compensation is based on assignment.Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Business & Information Technology, this individual will be considered when adjunct and/or substitute instructors are needed to teach Graphic & Web Design. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Adjunct instructors are required to implement effective learning strategies, deliver high quality instruction, assess student learning, and work closely with full time instructor in this area helping to advise students. Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis.  PLEASE NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, courses are delivered in a traditional face to face method on campus.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan and teach courses which fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives.
  2. Prepare a course syllabus, which includes course requirements, attendance requirements, grading criteria. 
  3. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues 
  4. Adhere to class schedules. Meet attendance standards. 
  5. Remain current in practices, trends and research related to areas of specialization or assignment. 
  6. Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives. 
  7. Identify and assess students who are in need of additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives and provide additional instruction to those students as needed. 
  8. Check email or Blackboard for student rosters and other information as required. 
  9. Maintain confidentiality relating to student matters. 
  10. Participate in college, campus and department evaluation processes. 
  11. Attend adjunct faculty meetings as scheduled. 
  12. Interact constructively with resident faculty. 
  13. Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market Gateway. 
  14. Comply with college policies and procedures and department guidelines. 
  15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. 
  • At least 4,000 hours of demonstrated relevant occupational experience in the field of graphic communications. Included in the above experience, must have at least 2,000 hours of demonstrated relevant occupational experience within the last five years.
  • Experience in working with 3-D design software. 
  • Must have working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS for web design 
  • Must have working knowledge of Adobe Cloud Suite 
  • Must have working knowledge of photography
  • Must have working knowledge of printing and publishing industry 

Other Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Working experience with computer software systems. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of related students. 
  • Skilled in teaching a wide range of related subjects. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Effective problem solving skills. 
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate day, evening and weekend students.
