As a member of ALA’s in-house production and design team, the production editor will create print and digital files as assigned by the unit director and senior production staff while adhering to ALA's high design and publishing standards. Some occasional administrative support for the unit director is also needed.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have the required expertise to prepare emails, brochures, logos, flyers, bookmarks, social media graphics, journals, and other marketing, conference, and editorial materials.
  • Possess a modern and sophisticated design sense.
  • Have strong typography skills and a keen understanding of how best to visually interpret editorial and marketing copy.
  • Demonstrate effective written/verbal communication and time-management skills.
  • Be comfortable working in a deadline-driven and detail-oriented environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide a wide-ranging portfolio of professional print/digital design work.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years professional print/digital publishing or graphic design experience. 
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field of study strongly preferred. 
  • Online or digital portfolio of relevant design work samples. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud 2017 design software on a PC in a Windows 7 environment; experience using template-based email preparation software (Informz or similar); proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and knowledge of print, social, and digital publishing specifications and best practices.
