We are hiring a Sr. Director of Executive Communications who will be responsible for leading the Medtronic Executive Communications Program and team, including design and implementation of a multifaceted internal and external communications strategy on behalf of the Medtronic CEO and Vice President-level leadership. You will provide direct communications support for the CEO to ensure the CEO’s internal and external communications agenda is effectively deployed globally. Ensures CEO communications are aligned to Medtronic’s strategic business interests and best advance Medtronic’s key messages and point of view through the creative use of a variety of communications tactics and channels. You will have the opportunity to coordinate and interface heavily with Medtronic leaders and support functions to gather and incorporate key business information and does so with extreme professionalism, diplomacy and trustworthiness. This role reports into the VP, Global Communications & Corporate Marketing.

A Day in the Life.

CEO Communications:

  • Identifies, assesses and/or selects key CEO speaking opportunities and prepares speeches, presentations, talking points and other related speaker materials to ensure the CEO is well prepared. Interacts with event organizers to develop appropriate contact and coordinate key venue logistics.
  • Prepares and manages key CEO communications channels, including the CEO’s intranet web presence and social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, etc). Ensures channels are appropriately monitor, responsive as necessary, and in alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Manages the design, agenda, content and production for CEO’s major internal yearly meetings, including CEO Town Halls, CEO Mission and Medallion Ceremonies. Coordinates with other Medtronic functions to ensure meeting logistics and management are flawless.
  • Coordinates CEO communications around internal business reviews and visits to Medtronic facilities globally.
  • As appropriate, prepares CEO written and verbal responses to select correspondence from employees or external audiences. Coordinates with CEO administrative assistant and support as required.
  • Accumulates data and information regarding the effectiveness of the CEO’s communications and utilizes insights to continually improve the CEO’s communications agenda. Ensure CEO Communications Program is state of the art and world class.
  • Interfaces with the Medtronic Executive Committee, other Medtronic senior leadership, the Global Communications Leadership Team, and key business and functional support personnel to develop CEO’s communications content and messaging.
  • Provides communications coaching and counsel to the CEO.
  • Manages team of 2-4 communications professionals.
  • Manages program budget and manages expenditures incurred on the CEOs behalf.

Leader Communications:

  • Designs and implements strategies and plans to ensure the company’s strategic communications, materials and plans are delivered and accessible by Medtronic leaders – specifically those leaders VP level and above.
  • Creates and manages tools for leadership communications and communications skills development (VP Vitals).
  • Ensures leaders have access to communications development vehicles and training in conjunction with Medtronic Talent Development to promote leaders as communicators.
  • Plans and executes the Annual Global Leadership Team and twice yearly Officers’ Group meetings.

Must Have:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree 
  • 15+ years of marketing, business strategy, public relations, employee communications, public affairs and/or corporate communications experience (13 years with Masters) 
  • People management experience

Nice to Have:

  • Master’s Degree in business administration, communications, journalism
  • Executive speechwriting experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to comprehend and translate business strategies into clear communications for external and employee audienes.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong knowledge and expertise with Powerpoint and business communications systems, applications and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of and proven expertise with social and digital media engagement.
  • Organizational know-how and resourcefulness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
