SCA Medical Missions is a nonprofit organization with the vision of a world committed to safe, timely and accessible surgical care. SCA Medical Missions is dedicated to helping thousands of patients receive world-class surgical care and helping hundreds of physicians, nurses and others in the US contribute to making a positive impact in global health.

SCA Medical Missions funds and operates a surgery center in Honduras which has 3 operating rooms, delivering orthopedic, ENT, gynecological, ophthalmologic, urologic, and general surgical procedures for outpatients and short stay patients. Visiting “brigades” and staff have treated over 12,000 patients from 2009 through 2015, free of charge.

The Medical Missions Development & Communications Associate will manage fundraising activities and communications. This individual will serve as an ambassador representing SCA Medical Missions goals, mission and core values. The ideal incumbent will be resourceful, highly organized with a strong attention to detail, goal driven and thrive in a dynamic environment bridging the nonprofit and corporate space. The full-time position is based in the Deerfield. The candidate will have a strong sense of mission and purpose and will help support the organization in creating the best practice nonprofit organization addressing surgical care needs globally.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison and account manager for a portfolio of 150-200 companies, and oversee fundraising, generating more than $400,000 in annual revenue by developing creative engagement strategies and leading and overseeing coordination of events 
  • Oversee and execute social media strategy including managing and updating website 
  • Create, write, and distribute internal and external communications and marketing materials such as brochures, appeal letters, newsletters, event signage, and more. 
  • Manage donor database, coordinate meetings, recruit volunteers, and develop targeted campaigns 
  • Identify improvements related to fundraising and development strategy and support implementation. 
  • Perform other related duties, as required related to Medical Missions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with proven academic excellence 
  • Minimum 3+ years of work experience in fundraising AND communications, marketing, or sales 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with excellent follow-up 
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and grammar skills 
  • Skilled in CRM or donor database system (Sales Force, Razor Edge), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and Social Media 
  • Ability to participate in travel domestically (approximately 4 trips per year) and internationally (approximately 2 brigades to Honduras per year)
