Position Summary:

The Public Relations Manager will be responsible for the communication with the media on both a corporate level and for GGP’s 126 l shopping centers nationwide. In addition, the Public Relations Manager will effectively and clearly convey GGP’s mission. This includes the development of public relations strategies, strategic counsel and message development for company spokespersons. The individual will work alongside the public relations team to develop and execute proactive and strategic programs that will move the needle for GGP’s business while elevating the reputation of brick-and-mortar as an integral and reliable component of modern retail real estate. This position will build brand affinity for GGP, its shopping centers within the business community and to shoppers. The Public Relations Manager will partner with the marketing and digital teams to promote special projects, programs and events at shopping centers and industry functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, plan and execute appropriate public relations plans and tactics to promote newsworthy items and initiatives, leading to measurable coverage in targeted media outlets 
  • Proactively build meaningful relationships with national and regional retail and real estate reporters 
  • Write superior quality, accurate news releases, backgrounders, talking points, and other communications materials for use with external media 
  • Work with executives and senior management to write, proofread and edit internal and external company communications including but not limited to press releases, memos, company updates and social media outlets 
  • Lead crisis communication efforts as a member of GGP Crisis Response team 
  • Lead, design and implement a strategic media relations infrastructure within the company, including development of media materials, media training, media outreach, media monitoring and metrics 
  • Create media plans and coordinate communications activities 
  • Monitor, track and analyze communications plans performance and branding objectives 
  • Manage initial requests for information by property, corporate and regional offices 
  • Arrange media interviews and provides key messages and information to identified spokespersons, as well as on-site support for interviews 
  • Partner with GGP departments to ensure consistent communication and messaging an integrated approach 
  • Assist with conference and convention planning 
  • Route and maintain PR clip files 
  • Take a lead in the implementation of the company/departmental programs and projects 
  • Provide value-added counsel to senior management, as well as create impactful, creative media strategies and plans for positive news stories 
  • Frequent travel may be required

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism preferred 
  • 5 -10 years’ experience in public relations (agency experience preferred) 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Substantial knowledge of social media and other digital channels 
  • Superior business acumen 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to write news releases, detailed company memos, quarterly reports, etc. 
  • Knowledge/understanding of the media industry (local, regional and national) and ability to handle media inquiries/calls on a daily basis. 
  • Knowledge of real estate helpful but not necessary 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point; Outlook
